UK National Traditional Karate Championship – Blackpool 2016

UK National Traditional Karate Championship – Blackpool 2016During this year’s Championship of United Kingdom, which ended in Blackpool on Saturday, 19th March, the athletes from TKFGB won 4 medals in senior categories. That was only a confirmation of excellent karate skills the traditional karateka’s presented. Exquisite performance in individual women kumite was delivered by Kristine Rubina, who only gave in to the later winner of the entire competition, while trying to enter the finals of the Championships in a very even fight. In contrast, fighting for the third place, Kristina left her opponent helpless and without a shadow of chance; she won before time, eventually scoring the bronze. In team kata competition, our team: Kristine Rubina, Andrew Skarzinski and Tadeusz Lejman, also won bronze medals. In the lower grades individual kata category, competitors from Boston Academy dominated the podium. Richard Toynton won, gaining the title of the champion of Great Britain, while Algimantas Baltrusaitis took the third place. It is also worth highlighting that Rafal Labuda showed a great style securing his presence in individual kumite quarterfinals, having won a number of fights. “We constantly implement the assumptions of our training system. We continue growing, precisely realizing our goals, and this brings resulting success. Once again, we proved to be among the leading clubs in the UK “- summed up the competition sensei Zbigniew Godzisz, 4rd dan, chairman of the Traditional Karate-Do Federation of Great Britain.

II Santa Claus Cup – Boston 2015

II Traditional Karate Santa Claus Cup – Boston 2015

II Traditional Karate Santa Claus Cup has now passed to history. This year’s edition was abundant in emotions both related to the tournament itself as well as the visiting guests: the Mayor of Boston, Mr Richard Austin (accompanied by his wife, former Mayor of Boston, Mrs Alison Austin), and most expected Mr Santa Claus with his magic sack-full of Xmas presents. Our junior athletes then tried their strengths at the disco and a buffet-load of snacks and beverages.

The Annual event, aimed at the youngest practitioners of Traditional Karate, gathered the excess of 90 participants both in the morning training sessions and the competition itself. Nearly 100% increase in numbers (as compared to the previous year), only confirms that the idea has been well conceived and targeted, and so, is supposed to attract even more attention in the future. It is worth noticing that the overall level of presentation was well above last year’s. Most of the young athletes proved to have made great progress and most of the last year’s favourites were heavily challenged.

There also took place the second General Assembly of TKFGB. Among others, suggestions were made as for new events for the upcoming year 2016. The event calendar to be presented by the end of current year.
